Overview
The Padlock Ranch was established in 1943 when Homer Scott, along with his wife Mildred, purchased 3000 acres along the pristine Tongue River near the Montana – Wyoming border. Over the years, the ranch has expanded to now encompass nearly 450,000 acres and over 10,000 pair of mother cows and calves, making the Padlock Ranch the tenth largest cow-calf operation in the US. As an ever progressing ranch, the Padlock has now embarked upon a new endeavor to share its legacy and the cowboy way of life with people seeking a working ranch vacation.
The Padlock Ranch is a place where guests come to live the legacy! This legacy is founded on sound and enduring principles, such as land stewardship, quality stockmanship, honesty and hard work. It is here that guests experience these principles first hand, while spending a week in the life of an American cowboy, riding one of the ranch’s finest ranch horses to gather, move, rope and doctor cattle, or whatever else maybe on the agenda for the day. Guests also enjoy a relaxing atmosphere full of good times, good food, good friends, and the scenic outdoors. Away from all the intrusions of today’s hurried lifestyles, guests find their stay at the Padlock rewarding, no matter the activities they choose to participate in.
With so much going on, guests are certain to work up an appetite. Padlock Ranch remedies hunger with delicious home cooked meals. The cook comes with years of experience cooking and preparing ranch style meals of meat and potatoes, with fresh baked breads and desserts. During opportune times, more traditional cowboy meals are prepared over a campfire in Dutch ovens and served from the Chuck wagon.
Once the sun sets, the campfire dims and the music stops, guests retire to their cozy rooms in the beautiful newly built Wolf Mountain Lodge. The lodge is their home away from home. It is made from large, finely finished logs and furnished with plush cowboy décor, which will add to a most memorable experience. If a more rustic adventure is preferred, limited cow camp lodging is also available. These quaint little cabins are fully furnished, clean and comfortable.
